Whether adopting a family member, a stepchild, or a child in need, we know the process can be long and emotional. The experienced attorneys at Kathryn Wayne-Spindler & Associates are honored to help you through this process and save time and money.
Before choosing to adopt a child, you may have many questions, such as: is this right for me and my family? Can I afford to adopt? Will I pass the adoption home study process? The experienced family law attorneys at Kathryn Wayne-Spindler & Associates can help you answer all these questions and more. For information on the fostering and adoption process in Michigan, please check out this link to the Michigan Department of Human Services.
Open or Closed Adoption
Open adoption allows for a range of situations, including a cooperative parenting arrangement that allows the birth parents to know and sometimes spend time with the adopted child, which is most commonly used when family members adopt a related child. While an open adoption might be right for some, many families prefer closed adoptions, meaning the birth parents and the adoptive parents do not obtain any information about each other. At Kathryn Wayne-Spindler & Associates, we represent both birth parents and adoptive parents. Click here to find out more.

Even choosing a country to adopt from can be complicated, as different nations may have unique requirements for adoptive parents or additional costs. Adoption Home Study
The adoption home study is a pre-placement home assessment designed to investigate the suitability of prospective adoptive parents. Typically, the process is handled by a child placement agency, or other certified individual or group. A home study typically takes six to eight weeks but may be much longer for international adoptions.
